MakerBot finally unveiled the MakerBot Digitizer today. They had previously teased their email subscribers that something was coming and today they’ve delivered.

MakerBot is the innovative company behind one of the most popular 3D printers available today. A 3D printer can actually print physical products (and some really cool ones too!) in a 3-dimensional space via plastic (and other materials in some cases) by laying down layer upon layer of really thin plastic. Check out the video below to see how a 3D printer works:
The MakerBot Digitizer is pretty cool because it can create the special files required for 3D printing rather easily. Not only that, it allows a user to scale or edit the item pretty easily. This is important because creating these files required quite a bit of technical skills in this area, but this product really simplifies the process. This allows companies big and small, as well as individuals, to quickly prototype designs and improve upon them at a relatively low cost.
Here’s a video of Bre Pettis, the founder of MakerBot, introducing the Digitizer and its benefits:
Here’s to hoping my boss will let us pick up a printer and even a digitizer! You can read more about the Digitizer on MakerBots website.
